We have to keep enough money aside to keep paying Andy Carroll £70k a week

Where the y*ds can keep a grip on wages because they have an upward curve on achievement, we’ve got a couple of seasons of buying Snograss and Fonte and scraping through to stay in the division

I’d pay him more, get Oxford back and give him a chance, and out Reid before it gets impossible to offload him.

Re: Declan Rice Pay Rise
Ken Dyer says we have offered him 8k a week.

I'd suggest it's an ample wage for a 19 year old, but as he looks around the dressing room I'm not surprised he feels he's worth more. Very dangerous game having no discernable wage structure and massively overpaying some on a comparitive basis

"It's more the precedent it set by us giving him that ridiculous contract."

All these kids are getting crazy contracts. Its kind of unavoidable in football now. The only thing you can do is actually guarantee them 1st team football which doesnt happen in the PL much. Thats probably why so many of our youngsters are happier in Germany at the moment.

"Has it though? I believe Oxford only made 4 appearances for BMG since January and they don't appear to be desperate to retain him so I doubt he has progressed any better than had he stayed here?"

But they want to buy him and last I heard they believe in him and he likes being there. How many of our youth products in the last 2/3yrs can we sell for 10-15m? (apart from Rice).

We kind of held on to an asset we didnt really pay for and managed to keep his value seeing as under Bilic he wasnt ever going to get a game. Also, his reputation seems to be intact unlike all of our other prospects.

Seems like good business really.

That's right. Difficult to know exactly what Pelle will do with the youngsters. Cullen? don't think so and same with Martinez, Byram and Burke.

And the scandie kid not Hakšabanović.

Oxford has been on loan for a while so we haven't been paying for that asset really. And the asset has been appreciating via the German league.

As you say, at least someone else was paying (part of) his wages.

It's more the precedent it set by us giving him that ridiculous contract. It's not going to be such a good deal if every half decent youth player now expects the same, is it? We're kind of seeing the repercussions now with Rice.

Even better then. Is this even a story?

The shit stirrers in the media that just wish to create shit between the fans and the board are having a field day this week.

Moses didn't develop at other clubs so much as when he went back to Chelsea and Conte realised he was a good wing back but a fairly shit winger that no-one wanted...

So I think thats been pretty good business really if we want to sell him. If he didn't get loaned I doubt he'd be worth anything.

I've seen players like Moses develop through numerous loan spells and it kind of makes sense.

I understand why people have an agenda about the board, but this happens all of the time in football in every club.

As usual this is a complete mess and just loses goodwill with fans and the player.

Eerie Descent 4:43 Thu Jun 7
Re: Declan Rice Pay Rise
All this is off the back of what they paid Reece Oxford.

I hate the owners, but they were fucked on that one. We had a kid who at his age group was the mostly highly rated in the country, the press got hold of it, and he was linked to all the big clubs. If he'd have gone to one of them instead of signing for us, there would have been uproar.

In hindsight, because he hasn't really progressed, it now looks like bad business, and it also looks like what we're offering Rice isn't enough, when the reality is it's more than enough, we're just overpaying Oxford.

Actually he is on £3,000 a week and they have offered £15,000 basic with appearance bonuses which could take it up to £30,000

Re: Declan Rice Pay Rise
yeah the media hate our board so this is just the story for them
I'd imagine he has turned down this offer but isn't this just standard a lot of the time

the board are cunts though and its water off a ducks back to them

they'll not be losing sleep over all the hype as the past has proven

A bunch of hysterical queens on here. The media and his agent must be lapping this up. A complete non story made into a major one due to the desperation of some fans to sling mud at the board
Any negotations are nobodys business but his. It will be sorted at some stage I'm sure.

So actually as it turns out they are doubling his current wage to £16k. Not so bad for a 19 year old.

Re: Declan Rice Pay Rise
I can't get my head around fans getting worried about a player not getting paid enough - The sport is rife with greedy cunt agents, and given the amount of wages we spend comparative to the clubs we end up competing for league spots with, we must be one of the best paying clubs in world football.
